Backing Up the Discussion Board

Here is a fairly easy way to back up the discussion board without creating huge Word files:

Copying the Messages

  1. In Blackboard, access the discussion board that you want to back up.
  2. Collect all of the messages to be archived.
  3. When the messages have all opened in one window, select and copy just the frame with the messages in them.  You will have to click and drag or click and hold your shift key to select all of the messages.
  4. When the messages have been highlighted (selected), right click.
  5. Click on Copy on the right-click menu.

    Pasting Into FrontPage

  6. Open Microsoft FrontPage.
  7. Open a blank page.
  8. Click on the HTML tab at the bottom of the screen.
  9. Place your cursor in between the <body> and the </body> tags.
  10. Click Paste.  Depending on the size of your discussion board, this action may take a while.
  11. Click on the Normal tab at the bottom of the screen to see what your page looks like.
  12. Save your work in a specific file location.
  13. Repeat these steps for the remainder of your discussion boards.
